Naturally Healthy

Tips and Tricks

natural medicine

After years of frustrating and costly encounters with mainstream physicians, I have become more and more reliant on natural medicine and dynamic nutritional support to promote a greater sense of healing for a wide range of common and not-so-common complaints.  It feels to me like there is a growing grassroots community of people just like me – people who have discovered powerful remedies for health complaints that would otherwise find us waiting in long lines at the local clinic with doubtful results. Ironically I believe many of us also find ourselves taking the pathway to holistic health after mainstream medicine has failed, or worse yet; created more health complications that leave us worse off than before.

Now, I’m not saying you should never seek out an allopathic physician – because obviously they offer a resource to health that most people simply cannot live without. And, to make it perfectly clear – nothing I share in this section of my blog is meant to replace something your doctor has prescribed. So, if you’re sick, see you’re doctor. If you’re looking for ways to support your overall healthfulness, you’ve come to the right place.

Some of the resources I will use to provide health related information here includes (primarily courtesy of Wikipedia):

Natural Medicine – Alternative medicine is any practice that is put forward as having the healing effects of medicine but is not based on evidence gathered using the scientific method. It may consist of a wide range of health care practices, products and therapies, using alternative medical diagnoses and treatments which are not typically included in the degree courses of established medical schools or used in conventional medicine. Examples of alternative medicine include homeopathy, naturopathy, chiropractic, and acupuncture.

Energy Medicine – Energy medicine, energy therapy, energy healing, or spiritual healing a branch of complementary and alternative medicine, holds the belief that a healer can channel healing energy into the person seeking help by different methods. There are various schools of energy healing including, spiritual, Reiki and Qigong. Specific schools of thought pertaining to energy medicine include Barbara Ann Brennan, Donna Eden and others.

Herbal medicine – also called botanical medicine or phytomedicine — refers to using a plant’s seeds, berries, roots, leaves, bark, or flowers for medicinal purposes. Herbalism has a long tradition of use outside of conventional medicine. It is becoming more mainstream as improvements in analysis and quality control along with advances in clinical research show the value of herbal medicine in the treating and preventing disease. Modern Shamanism – Shamanism is based on the premise that the visible world is pervaded by invisible forces or spirits that affect the lives of the living. Michael Harner synthesized shamanic beliefs and practices from all over the world into a system now known as core shamanism or neoshamanism. It does not hold a fixed belief system, but focuses on the practice of trance travel and may on an individual basis integrate indigenous shamanism, the teachings of Carlos Castaneda and other spiritualities.

Nutritional Support: Nutritional Healing is an established scientific approach aimed at balancing the needs of the human body through the use of healthful, nutrient-rich foods and, many times, dietary supplements. Nutritional healing offers the belief that nutrition plays an important function in virtually every medical condition. Nutritional healing employs wholesome food and supplements to encourage the body’s natural healing, which it does by: boosting the immune system, detoxifying the body, restoring beneficial digestion, and/or correcting any vitamin and mineral imbalances. Nutritional healing is a complementary medicine, meaning it can be used alongside conventional medicine (with your health-care provider’s approval). Additionally, nutritional healing is as concerned about prevention of health problems as it is at encouraging the body to heal itself. (source: http://tinyurl.com/lw5kwes)
